Fly fishing in Wales

Wales is a game anglers paradise. Enjoy challenging fly fishing on classic rivers for Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Grayling, Shad, Sea Bass and Pike.

Wales has the best Sea Trout rivers in the U.K. - the Towy and Teifi among them. Welsh sea-trout range up to 20lb, but on average they’re between 2lb - 3lb.

Traditionally, for Salmon, the Wye is known for its large spring fish - March, April and May are good months to try for them.

Late May and June sees fish in the 9-16lb class along with the first  of the summer grilse.

The Usk has a much later run than the Wye and the chance of a fresh grilse or summer fish is good right up to the end of the season.

September and October seeing heavy runs of fresh fish, with often 50% of the Wye's annual catch taken.

The Wye and Usk are the best Brown Trout rivers in Wales - holding vast populations of Grayling, too

The Usk is a freestone river with excellent brownie fishing distributed throughout its system, and many tributaries also offer superb sport.

Trout fishing on the upper Wye is excellent. Here the river has great variety of water flowing over bedrock and gravel, from slow glides to faster, oxygenated white water rapids.

Specimens up to 8lbs inhabit the deeper pools of the main river.

The Wye provides some of the best Grayling fishing in the U.K. - not only large numbers but also specimens of considerable size.

The Wye upstream of Hay, and tributaries such as the Irfon, Ithon, Lugg and Monnow provide the best fishing.

The best months are from September to December. January and February can also productive.

Guided fishing is included in all our packages, as are fishing day transport and bank side picnic lunches. And all our guides are English speaking.
