Fly fishing adventures in Montana
Smith River Adventure

Fly fishing the Smith River

SMITH RIVER GORGE floating is Montana’s ultimate fly fishing adventure. Superb fishing, stunning scenery and remote setting combining to make a fly fishing trip on it waters an unforgettable experience.

The Smith is unique among Montana rivers in that floating the Smith requires a government permit. Issued to a few select specialist outfitters and strictly limited in numbers, this system allows for only moderate fishing pressure and very long floats in relative solitude.

Madison River Brown Trout

Smith River Adventure is hosted by 'Lewis and Clark Expeditions', the region’s most experienced and best respected outfitter.

In floating the Smith River Gorge the angler is guided through 60 miles of glorious, fishing with no road access from put in to take out.

The river meanders through dramatic canyons, forested hills, towering rock walls and open meadows, making for a unique floating experience in exceptionally beautiful and pristine wilderness.

Drifting on the Madison River

The Smith offers an endless variety of enchantments, unfolding its mysterious moods with each new bend in the river.

Float past pictographs inscribed by Native American Shaman that offer a magical link to Montana’s ancient past, as you follow in the footsteps of the famous Lewis and Clark expedition - commissioned by congress in the 1800’s to open an east-west trade passage through hostile Indian territory.

Smith River Brown Trout

Fish for wild Brownies, Cutthroats and Rainbows in the company of graceful bald eagles and grazing herds of deer, moose and elk.

Cast amongst stoneflies and caddis fluttering nervously above riffles. Prospect amongst mayflies floating languidly alongside canyon walls as large brown trout rise to sip them.

On a Lewis and Clark float trip you're lost the excitement of your fishing and the sensory pleasures of the Smith’s amazing environment.
